My very FIRST time traveling overseas with friends!
On 11th September 2016, 825pm (Malaysia). Aircraft D2700 transported 4 friends (Guo Unn, Elaine, Brian and I) to Gold Coast, Australia.
This trip was booked almost a year in advance! Gu, Elaine and I got our tickets end 2015, Brian joined in later in 2016. We invited more people along, but they couldn’t join. Boo! Richard offered to fetch us to the airport – Thank you Rich!!! Raymond followed to send us off. We reached the airport early and had our dinner – McDonalds, before boarding. The flight was good, not much turbulence.
I sat together with Elaine and Gu. Brian sat at a different place. Elaine and I watched “Love, Rosie” and had our nasi lemaks. The nasi lemak was not as good as we hoped it’d be. We both remembered having nicer nasi lemaks in previous Air Asia flights. Oh well.
The plane landed on time (surprisingly) at 6am+, got our baggages and went hunting for sim cards (and food). Took the bus to the stop at Surfer’s Paradise where we will be staying just a few mins walk from.
We booked our stay from airbnb.com, the lady was really nice and showed us the place. They provided small things like soap, shampoo, towels, and even some kitchen condiments like ketchup, salt, etc. We settled down and rested for a bit before we headed out to the stores. Bought ourselves a Go Card for public transportation. We got the unlimited passes at $10 per day (The fares easily go higher than that).
Our plan was to visit Elk Cafe for lunch, but we happen to have taken a wrong bus that led us to a mall – Pacific Fair instead.
We craved something meaty and ate at Schnitz where they mainly serve turkish wrap (pretty much burgers) and rolls. Check out their menu here! It was around 4pm when we ate. The food was really yummy and the portion was huge! I especially love the fries! Thick cut, but crispy and lightly coated in their secret powder.
3 of us had the “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”. Brian and mine in turkish wrap, and Elaine’s in a roll. Guo Unn had the “American Dream”. You can add on a combo that comes with fries and a drink. I was super hungry, so I ordered a large combo ($1 difference) but I really didn’t need to as their portion was already huge. Greedy me. Opps!
After lunch, we walked around and got some fruits (strawberries! yay!) and yogurt. Also visited Kikki.k there! Then we headed off to Sky Point to redeem our combo tickets and check out sky point itself.
The scenery is gorgeous (even better when night falls)! The city lights are so pretty from way up there! We took a lot of photos and videos and chilled there for a bit. Our plan was to visit the beach, but we were all tired from our journey here and decided to skip that to go grocery shopping for Day 2’s breakfast – Bacon Pancakes! We took Uber home to save money (Go Card charges by a per day basis and only starts once you use it that particular day). Gu left his wallet in the car but luckily the kind man turned back for us. He took a while as he was already fetching other people, so we had our mini photoshoot session while waiting :
We walked around Surfers and checked out the shops. Cotton On was having some sales and the guys bought some stuff (The girls bought NOTHING!). Prices were as low as $5.
We headed home after. Everyone washed up and put all their devices to charge, sent photos to one another and then settled down for a movie. Halfway through, the guys fell asleep. It was only around 10pm! We woke them up to rest properly. The guys took the living room (sofa bed; thanks guys) while the girls took the bedroom. I sat up in my bed writing the summary for the day before I snoozing at about 12am.
