My Submission for Getaway Desperados | Contest

I love participating in contests! Particularly the kind that requires a creative photo or a creative caption.
My dream is to one day win a contest that grants me an all expanse paid trip (overseas).
I also hope that some day I may win a car or a house.

Recently, my all time favourite app – The Entertainer (I discovered it last year and it is such a gem!) had this contest called the ‘Getaway Desperados’ where you might win a trip to Italy/Sri Lanka/Nepal in conjunction with them launching their Entertainer Getaways app. I kinda doubt I’ll win, but I tried anyways.

The aim was to create a fake holiday photo.
My initial idea was to lie down in a beach chair in my garden, photoshop a backdrop stand behind me (still able to see the garden) and have my dad hold a torch light shining onto my face, and my mom pretending to take a photo of it all. I thought it was a genius idea.. until I see how wonderful some of the other participant’s entries were. All the bright saturated colors and super clear shots. They were chosen as the top favourites of different weeks.

So I panicked and changed my plan and came up with this :

I’m not sure how satisfied I am with it. I started planning for this contest since the very beginning, but only able to execute my plan much later (nearing the contest deadline). I am very much in love with the photo above and the bright colors, but I somehow feel that my very first idea – if done nicely, would be a much better pick. It’s funnier and definitely clearly showing a ‘failed’ holiday photo.

Oh well. The contest deadline has passed and I’m just sharing my thoughts.

I am quite happy with the outcome.. It really came out nicely with all the trial and error I did. I just thought it isn’t ‘fail holiday photo’ enough. Was too concerned in getting the bright colors that I noticed the judges really like from their weekly top favourites.

These are the few photos that I used in the above.. I’ve downloaded about 10+ other photos that I end up not using in the final piece. Some looked odd and some just didn’t fit right.

Well, that is all. I hope I get to win the grand prize and cross off one of my dreams.
