A very simple tutorial on an elastic bound floral pincushion. Wear it on your wrist or on your fingers. Either way that suits you best.
What you’ll need :
1. Scissors
2. Fabric
(I used floral cotton fabric, white cotton fabric and linen)
3. Needle and thread
4. Elastic band (It works better if it’s thicker)
First off, cut your fabrics (except the white cotton fabric) into squares slightly larger than your preferred pincushion size.
Take a piece of floral square and cut a heart right out of it. To do so, fold the square in half and cut a half heart like the picture below.
Then, place the linen square right behind it and sew along the heart. Cut off the excess.
Get the white cotton fabric and fold it into half. I’m using this for the bottom piece of the pincushion to avoid having the needles poke through to your skin. You can have them thicker. I thought of using cardboard, but you wouldn’t be able to wash it if you happen to need to after.
Sew the white fabric to the wrong side of a square floral piece (without the heart).
Flip the piece so that the floral side faces the top. Place the elastic bands (You would want to measure it first. Make it slightly shorter so it’ll be stretched and tight on hand) on top like in the photo above. Sandwich the elastic bands by placing the heart shaped floral piece on top of the other piece right side together.
Sew them together in a square leaving a small part out to flip the piece inside out. You should have something like the above.
Once done, flip it out. Use a needle or pin to tug on the 4 corners to make it pointy.
I also stamped the word ‘LOVE’ on top with regular alphabet rubber stamps.
Wear it on your wrist like so :
Or, you can also wear it on your fingers like this..
And that’s all! Happy sewing!
